Wally Grossman turned in a solid track & field career atWestern Reserve in the mid-1960s. Grossman, who graduated in justthree years and proceeded on to graduate from Dentistry School atWRU in 1969, made the most of his shortened stint as a three-yearletterwinner and three-time captain. Grossman also won threePresidents’ Athletic Conference Championships in the shot putand earned the Herb Bee Award, given to the Most Outstanding TrackMan, three consecutive years. All told, Grossman broke 14 fieldrecords during his tenure. He then became more interested inOlympic weightlifting as a competitive sport. In 1966, Grossmanearned first-place honors at the National Collegiate WeightliftingChampionships. He then joined the Air Force and served from1969-71.
