In a still famous baseball game against Ohio State in the spring of 1877, this young pitcher from Girard, Pennsylvania, performed a feat that ensured him a place in the annals of collegiate sport history. That afternoon, Clarence Allen threw the first curve ball in intercollegiate baseball. Allen was introduced to the mysteries of the curve ball by an old Pittsburgh National League moundsman.
