Derek Messmer is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in thehistory of Case Western Reserve University. A team captain as asenior, Messmer’s greatest athletic achievement came when hewon the 1996 NCAA Division III Championship as a heavyweight. Hewas also a four-time University Athletic Association champion andfinished with a career record of 121-26 (.823). Messmer also playedfootball and competed for the track & field team, earningmultiple letters and individual honors in each sport. On thegridiron, he was a 1996 Football Gazette Honorable MentionAll-America selection as a defensive tackle.
