The first star of Case Western Reserve University basketball, Russell Drake was named All-Presidents’ Athletic Conference three times. Drake was named the Spartans’ Most Valuable Player in 1972, 1973, and 1974, and he served as team captain as a junior and senior. In 1974, he was the first basketball player in CWRU history to be named an honorable mention All-American. Drake is one of the all-time leading scorers in CWRU history with 1,396 points. His outstanding skills earned him a tryout with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
