Meredith Stakem was an elite sprint freestyle swimmer at Case Western Reserve, earning three All-America certificates and seven honorable mentions during her time as a Spartan.  Her career highlights included an eighth-place finish in the 100-yard freestyle at the 2003 NCAA Championships, and third- and fifth-place finishes as a part of the 200-yard freestyle relay and 400-yard freestyle relay, respectively, at the 2001 NCAA Championships.  Her All-America honorable mentions came in the 100-yard freestyle (13th in 2001), 400-yard freestyle relay (14th in 2000 and 11th in 2003), 800-yard freestyle relay (12th in 2003), 200-yard medley relay (10th in 2001) and 400-yard medley relay (13th in 2001 and 12th in 2003).  At the conference level, Stakem was a nine-time All-UAA finisher, including individual UAA Championships in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle during her senior year, setting a conference record in the latter during the meet.  Her career-best time of 52.27 seconds in the 100-yard freestyle, set in 2003, still ranks as the third-fastest in program history as of her induction.
