Gordon McCarter was the starting fullback and a team captain forWestern Reserve in the early 1950s. Also the senior classtreasurer, he worked at CWRU following graduation as director ofalumni affairs (1963-69) and as a university registrar (1969-77).From 1967 until his retirement in 1995, McCarter served as areferee for the National Football League. He also held numerousother positions, including president of the Cleveland FootballOfficials Association and the Case Reserve Athletic Club.
