Thomas McLaughlin, M.D. served as the Case Western ReserveUniversity varsity athletic team physician for more than 30 yearsbefore being named emeritus team physician. He received hisBachelor of Arts Degree from Harvard University in 1961 and hismedical degree from the University of Rochester in 1965. After hisinternship and orthopedic surgery residency at University Hospitalsof Cleveland, he became Case’s team physician and a member ofthe Case medical school faculty. He also served in the UnitedStates Air Force from 1967-1969. After joining the athleticdepartment, he has missed only one Spartan Football game—in1988 when his father was posthumously inducted into the NebraskaCollege Football Hall of Fame. He helped develop a sports medicineeducation program which has provided educational opportunities forhigh school students, undergraduates, medical students andresidents in various specialties.
