John Nadas became the first national champion of the newly federated Case Western Reserve University when he won the 1970 Epee title at the NCAA Fencing Championships. Nadas won his title against competitors across all NCAA Divisions, including Division I, adding more prestige to his championship.  Nadas was a two-time All-American and qualified for the NCAA Championships three times during his career. He was also named the team's Most Valuable Performer three times and won the Albert Litwak Trophy in 1970 as the most outstanding scholar-athlete at CWRU. Nadas went on to compete for the USA Fencing Team at the World University Games in Torino in 1970.
