Claude Sharer spent a career of more than 40 years creatingoutstanding collegiate wrestling at Case Tech and in the Clevelandarea. At the height of his success at Case Tech, Sharer was thehost of the 4-I Tournament, which drew the top collegiate and AAUwrestlers from Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and NewYork. The tournament was considered one of the proving grounds forthe U.S. Olympic team. Claude Sharer’s most outstanding Caseteam was the 1937 squad, which went undefeated and won the 4-ITournament Championship with four individual champions. Sharer didmore than produce outstanding Case performers and teams. He was apioneer in developing the sport of wrestling. A year after hisarrival at CIT, he organized the school’s first varsity team,and in 1929, organized the Ohio Collegiate Wrestlingtournament.  Sharer was president of the NCAA WrestlingCoaches and Officials Association in 1952-53. He also organized theWrestling Coaches and Officials Association of Northern Ohio forboth high school and college coaches.
