W.R. Persons, Jr. earned three varsity letters in both basketball and track and was captain for each team as a senior. On the hardwood, “Buck” was known for his consistency and defensive strength. He excelled most in track & field where he broke school records for both the shot put and discus in 1931. Persons was also one of the three CIT representatives at the State Track & Field Meet. He was the track team’s top scorer in 1930.
