Steve Szabo participated in wrestling and golf for the Red Cats,earning three varsity letters in both sports while playing underlegendary head coach Eddie Lewis. During his time as a Red Cat, hehelped resurrect the wrestling program, which went from winless tothe Presidents’ Athletic Conference Championship his juniorseason. Szabo trained with six individual Presidents’Athletic Conference champions. He placed second in the 130-poundweight class to four-time conference champion, Pat McCormick ofWashington & Jefferson (Pa.) in the finals. By not gettingpinned by McCormick, who remained his school’s winningestwrestler at the time of Szabo’s induction, Szabo securedenough points for the team victory. Szabo received his bachelor'sdegree in chemistry from Western Reserve in 1962 and graduated fromthe Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1967. He served asa flight surgeon in the United States Air Force from1968–70.
