Frank Kelker earned a combined nine varsity letters in football, basketball and track. Kelker was named Associated Press Little All-America, as he led Western Reserve to a 28-game winning streak on the gridiron. For Kelker, it was a 54-game streak of winning and tied performances which began at Dover High School, where he had been named the outstanding scholastic athlete in the state of Ohio. Sport Pictorial named “Doc” Kelker to its “first-string, top-of-the-bottle, grade-A, All-America” team in 1936. But “Doc’s” finest athletic honor came 25 years after he graduated. In 1962, he was named in Sports Illustrated’s Silver Lining Anniversary All-America listing.
