The Case Western Reserve University men's swimming and diving team recorded its third consecutive top 35 national finish during the 2025-26 season with five students representing CWRU at the national championship meet.
At the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, CWRU scored 22.0 points and placed 33rd in the country. Senior John Drumm capped his career with three All-America honors, including a First Team selection, and first-year diver Ryan Wells secured an All-America finish.
Drumm ended his career with seven All-America selections, including two First Team honors. He placed seventh in the 200 Fly, 11th in the 1650 Free, and 16th in the 500 Free, setting the school record in the event with a time of 4:26.67 in the prelims. Wells became just the second diver in program history to place in the top 16 at the national championship with his 14th-place finish in the 3-meter dive. Additionally, seniors Mason Bencurik and William Froass, and first-year Trevor Novak competed for Case Western Reserve at the national championship.
The Spartans placed sixth at the 2026 University Athletic Association Men's Swimming Championships in February, recording eight NCAA B cut times and setting five school records at the four-day meet. The squad recorded six school records throughout the season, three in relays and three in individual events. The 400 Free Relay of Novak, Bencurik, Froass, and Drumm swam a time of 2:58.67 at the Spartan Invitational, the 200 Free Relay of Novak, first-year Lucas Porta, sophomore Victor Trinh, and senior Ben Borvendeg recorded a time of 1:22.04 at the same meet, and Bencurik, Novak, Drumm, and sophomore Owen Miao swam a school record time of 6:36.58 at the UAA Championships in the 800 Free Relay. Novak added a school record in the 100 Free in 44.78 seconds at the Spartan Invite, and sophomore Edgar Rutkauskas swam the fastest time in program history in the 200 Breast when he touched the wall at 2:00.13.
Case Western Reserve finished the campaign with a 6-3 mark in dual meets. The Spartans started the year with three consecutive wins over Centre, Franklin, and Ohio Wesleyan before falling to sixth-ranked Carnegie Mellon. The team responded with a win over Division II Gannon in the last dual meet of the fall semester. In the spring, the squad lost to 15th-ranked SUNY Geneseo and fifth-ranked Kenyon before closing the year with wins over Oberlin and John Carroll.
In the classroom, 14 members of the squad received All-Academic honors from the UAA. In addition, Bencurik, Borvendeg, Drumm, and Froass were named to the CSC Academic All-District Team. Froass earned the NCAA Elite Scholar Athlete Award for having the highest cumulative grade point average at the NCAA Championship, the second time a member of the CWRU men's swimming and diving team has received the prestigious honor.
