Four members of the Case Western Reserve University men's swimming and diving team received Academic All-District honors from the College Sports Communicators, as announced by the organization on Tuesday.
Seniors Mason Bencurik, Ben Borvendeg, John Drumm, and William Froass were honored for their achievements in the classroom and in the pool.
Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore academically with a cumulative grade point average greater than 3.50 and compete in 75 percent of competitions or finish in the top eight at a conference meet or participate in a national championship to be eligible for the award. Schools are limited to four selections per team. Drumm was selected by the CSC Academic All-America Committee to advance to the Academic All-America ballot, with three teams of Academic All-Americans released on Wednesday, April 29.
Bencurik qualified for the 2026 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships in the 400 Free Relay and 200 Free, placing 19th in the relay and 29th in the individual event. This season, he helped the Spartans set program records in the 400 Free Relay (2:58.67) at the 2026 Spartan Invite and 800 Free Relay (6:36.58) at the 2026 University Athletic Association Swimming and Diving Championships. He also recorded the fourth-fastest time ever by a CWRU swimmer in the 100 Free, 45.70 seconds, when he led off the 400 Free Relay at the 2026 UAA Championships. Borvendeg has a 3.944 cumulative GPA and received his first career CSC Academic All-District honor.
Drumm completed one of the best careers by a Case Western Reserve men's swimmer this season, earning three All-America honors to finish his four years as a Spartan with seven. In 2026, he placed seventh nationally in the 200 Fly for his second career All-America First Team honor and added an 11th place finish in the 1650 Free and a 16th place finish in the 500 Free. Drumm is tied for the third most All-America recognitions in program history. He set program records in the 500 Free (4:26.67) and 400 Free Relay (2:58.67) this season and recorded the second-best times in program history in the 1000 Free and 1650 Free. A finance major with a 3.736 cumulative GPA, this is Drumm's third career Academic All-District selection.
Froass received the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Swimming and Diving Elite Scholar-Athlete Award for having the highest cumulative GPA at the national championship. He helped the Spartans place 19th in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:01.06. Earlier in the season, Froass was on the relay that set a school record in the event in 2:58.67. The 2025-26 Academic All-District Men's Swimming and Diving Team, selected by CSC, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in the pool and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes men's swimming and diving honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.
The Division III CSC Academic All-America program is partially financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CSC with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2025-26 Division III Academic All-America programs.
The CWRU men's swimming and diving team placed 33rd in the team standings at the national championship with 22.0 points, placing in the top 35 nationally for the third year in a row.
