#7 Spartans Take Two Matches against RIT

The seventh-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team wrapped up its weekend with a pair of wins, besting the Rochester Institute of Technology by 7-0 scores in each match on Saturday at the Medical Mutual Tennis Center in Cleveland.

The Spartans have now won three straight matches to improve to 22-5 overall, while RIT dropped to 7-7 with the two setbacks.

Stats and Standouts


  • The Spartans went 6-0 in doubles matches with the clinching victories provided by junior Trey Lambright and senior Justin Prochnow in the first match, and by sophomores Rohit Jain and Luke Saylor in the second match.

  • CWRU was 12-0 in singles contests with 12 different players picking up a win. The clinching point in the first match was recorded by sophomore Rowan Matorin, while first-year Nikhil Ramani added the clincher in the second contest.

  • Ramani became the 11th different CWRU player to clinch a match this season for the Spartans. Matorin became the sixth Spartan to clinch multiple matches for the team this year.

  • Matorin improved to 32-7 in singles matches for his career, and his .821 winning percentage is the fifth-best in program history.

  • CWRU improved to 4-0 all-time against RIT. Each of the four wins has been a sweep.

  • The Spartans improved to 6-1 in home matches this season.

  • CWRU has won the doubles point in 23 of its 27 matches this season. The Spartans are 20-3 when winning the doubles point.

  • Including the fall, CWRU stands at 234-89 (.724) in singles play and 97-51 (.655) in doubles action as a team this season following Saturday's action. The Spartans have a combined .772 (125-37) winning percentage in singles matches, and a .728 (59-22) doubles winning percentage in dual matches.

The Spartans will be back in action next Friday, April 10, with a key match against fifth-ranked Denison University. The contest is slated for a noon start at the Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.
