The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team, ranked fifth in Division III, suffered a 4-1 loss to fourth-ranked Denison University on Friday afternoon at the Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.
The loss ended a three-match winning streak for the Spartans and dropped the team to 22-6 for the season, while Denison picked up its 11th consecutive win to improve to 16-2 overall.

The Spartans dropped the doubles point despite a win in the first match from graduate student Bryce Ware and junior Trey Lambright, ranked third in the Central Region, who bested the region's top-ranked duo in Ethan Green and Kael Shah.

Ware also picked up a straight-set win at no. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-2, over Anthony Payiavlas to even the score at 1-1.

Denison went on to win the third, first, and second singles matches to clinch the team victory. The fourth and fifth singles matches were left unfinished.

Ware improved to 8-4 in singles matches this season following Friday's win, including a 5-1 singles mark in the spring. He and Lambright improved to 17-6 together in doubles matches with a 12-5 mark in dual contests.

The Big Red entered the match as the second-ranked team in the Central Region, while the Spartans were the region's third-ranked team.

This was just the fifth time in 28 matches this season that the Spartans have dropped the doubles point.
