The sixth-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team, ranked sixth in Division III, picked up a signature win to wrap up its regular season on Saturday, besting fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon University 5-2 at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio.

The Spartans ended their regular season with a 24-7 overall record, while the Tartans saw a three-match winning streak come to a close, as the team dropped to 13-3 overall.

Stats and Standouts

• Junior Trey Lambright and graduate student Bryce Ware, ranked third in the Central Region, claimed the lone doubles win for the Spartans with a victory against Akshay Joshi and Ian Miller at no. 1 doubles.

• Ware would get the Spartans on the board with a win at no. 6 singles, and victories from sophomore Rowan Matorin and graduate student Ansh Shah at no. 4 singles put CWRU a win away from clinching.

• After a Carnegie Mellon win at no. 1 singles, senior Anmay Devaraj won the match for CWRU with a straight-set win at no. 4 singles.

• Senior Matthew Plunkett, ranked 14th in the Central Region, added a win at no. 2 singles to add to the CWRU margin of victory.

• Saturday's win was the Spartans' ninth consecutive victory against the Tartans.

• CWRU is 6-6 against nationally-ranked teams this season with wins over then top-ranked Denison, ninth-ranked Swarthmore, 11th-ranked Kenyon, 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins, and 36th-ranked Southwestern.

• The Spartans stand at 8-2 in home matches this season.

• This was just the sixth time through 31 matches this season that CWRU has not won the doubles point. The team improved to 4-2 when losing the doubles point, including three wins against top-10 teams (no. 1 Denison, no. 5 Carnegie Mellon, and no. 9 Swarthmore)
