The Case Western Reserve University cross country teams returned to action on Friday night with the first of two weekend meets, sending a group of runners to the All-Ohio Classic in Cedarville, Ohio.

Women's Race

• The Spartans had four runners competing in the women's 6K race at the event, not enough to register a team score.

• First-year Elena Von Handorf was the team's top finisher, placing 68th overall out of 281 runners and 27th out of 133 Division III competitors. She notched a time of 23:59.1 in her first collegiate 6K race.

• Following Von Handorf was first-year Maya DiPasquale, who was 109th overall and 42nd among Division III runners with a time of 24:50.8

• Also in action for the Spartan women on Friday night were first-year Reid Smith, who was 159th (69th DIII) with a time of 25:52.8, and first-year Hannah Nevius, who was 227th (106th DIII) with a time of 28:19.2

Men's Race

• The CWRU men placed 14th out of 20 teams in the overall standings and fifth among DIII teams.

• First-year Devin Montileone was the team's top finisher in the men's race, placing 22nd among the 166 Division III runners and 83rd among the 383 runners overall with a time of 26:33.0 in the first 8K race of his Spartan career.

• First-year Jacob Porter followed in 94th-place overall (27th among DIII runners) with a time of 26:41.6.

• Rounding out the team's top-five finishers on Friday were first-year Tyler Ginther in 115th place (37th DIII) with a time of 26:54.7, sophomore Adam Joseph in 155th place (51st DIII) with a time of 27:27.8, and first-year Thijs Doot in 161st place (56th DIII) with a time of 27:34.2.

• Sophomore Will Larson (165th overall, 59th DIII, 27:39.8) and first-year Austin Schneidler (208th overall, 87th DIII, 28:22.0) completed CWRU's top-seven runners on Friday.

• Also in action in the race for CWRU were first-year Lowell Copps (211th, 89th DIII, 28:23.7), senior Nathan Webb (213th, 90th DIII, 28:29.0), first-year Chance Krenzer (227th, 97th DIII, 28:41.0), first-year Caleb Guarino (242nd, 103rd, 28:54.5), junior Praveen Sureshkumar 250th, 108th DIII, 29:10.2), sophomore Eli Stodard (283rd, 126th DIII, 29:48.6), and first-year Ryan Gensler (296th, 135th DIII, 30:21.0).

Spartan Notes

• The CWRU men entered the USTFCCCA Division III rankings for the first time this season this past week, after being unranked in the preseason poll. The Spartans were also ranked second in the Great Lakes Region, a four-team rise from their preseason regional ranking.

• While not nationally ranked, the Spartan women saw their regional ranking jump one spot from their preseason selection, as the team climbed to fifth in the Great Lakes Region this week.

• Joseph bested his previous career-best 8K time of 29:00.1, set last season at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational, by 92.3 seconds.

• All four Spartan women and eight of the 13 men competed at their respective distances for the first time during their collegiate careers on Friday night.

Up Next

The Spartans will send a contingent of runners to compete in the Pre-Nationals meet on Saturday in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The meet will provide CWRU runners with an early opportunity to view the course where the 2025 NCAA Division III Championships will be held in November. The women's 6K race is slated for an 8:30 a.m. start to be followed by the men's race at 9:15 a.m.
