CWRU Swim Dive Teams Sweep Trio of Meets on Saturday

The 11th-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's swimming and diving team and 13th-ranked women's team swept three dual meets on Saturday, defeating Centre College and Franklin College at the Battle in the Bluegrass in Danville, Kentucky, and taking down Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.

Both Spartan teams improved to 3-0 this season, with the Battling Bishops falling to 1-1, the Colonels moving to 5-1, and the Grizzlies dropping to 0-2.

#11/13 CWRU vs. Ohio Wesleyan (Women: 157-116, Men: 172-70)


  • Sophomore Victor Trinh won two events, the 50 Free (21.82) and 50 Fly (24.11), and was a member of the winning 200 Medley Relay (1:36.19) and 200 Free Relay (1:27.85)
  • In addition to being a member of the 200 Medley Relay, senior Julian Kim won the 50 Breast (26.40) and 100 Breast (58.42)
  • Senior Ben Borvendeg placed first in the 100 Free (49.59) and joined the 200 Medley and 200 Free Relays
  • First-year Cameron Schauer added a pair of wins, placing first in the 200 Free (1:48.82) and 500 Free (4:58.37)
  • Adding wins for the men's team were first-year Oliver Johnson (1000 Free, 10:25.77) and sophomore Edward Steward (100 Fly, 52.41)
  • Junior Maggie Rose Rook won a pair of events, the 200 Free (2:02.01) and the 500 Free (5:31.51) in addition to helping win the 200 Free Relay (1:43.85)
  • Junior Sheila Monera Cabarique (100 Free, 55.30) and sophomore Sayjel Tan (100 Back, 1:00.83) both won an event and were members of the winning 200 Free Relay
  • Sophomore diver Anna Berry swept the boards, winning the 1-meter with a score of 153.80 and the 3-meter with a score of 169.40
  • Adding first-place finishes were senior Megha Siddapureddy (100 Fly, 1:03.69), junior Erin Butler (1000 Free, 11:14.77), and first-year Phoebe Kaplan (400 IM, 5:01.53)

Battle in the Bluegrass: #11 Men's Swimming and Diving Team


  • The men's team defeated Franklin 385-69 and bested Centre 275-211
  • First-years River Chiang and Trevor Novak won three individual events each and added first place finishes in relays
  • Chiang won the 200 Free (1:43.86), 200 Back (1:56.99), and 100 Free (47.65) and was a member of the winning 200 Free Relay (1:25.55) and 400 Free Relay (3:08.00)
  • Novak placed first in both 50 Free races (21.53 and 21.61) and the second 100 Free event (47.68), while also swimming in the 400 Free Relay
  • Senior William Froass won both the 200 IM (1:56.62) and 100 Fly (50.49), swam in both the 200 and 400 Free Relays, and led off the winning 200 Medley Relay (1:34.17)
  • Senior Mason Bencurik also swam on all three relays and added a victory in the 200 Free (1:45.88)
  • Sophomore Sam Schultz (400 IM, 4:11.22) and senior John Drumm (500 Free, 4:41.49) added individual event victories for CWRU

Battle in the Bluegrass: #13 Women's Swimming and Diving Team


  • The women's team won 297-188 over Franklin and 303.5-182.5 over Centre
  • Senior Claire Kozma helped the Spartans win six events, including four as an individual
  • She was victorious in both 200 Free races (1:56.43 and 1:58.04), the 100 Free (52.92), and 500 Free (5:19.44)
  • Kozma joined first-year Sohalya Rawlins, sophomore Marina Oria, and senior Eliza Dixon for the 200 Free Relay (1:37.56) and added a win in the 400 Free Relay (3:41.40) with Rawlins, first-year Zara Rehman, and first-year Tenzin Panamserkhang
  • First-year diver Jayna Kawas swept all four diving events, winning the 3-meter with scores of 226.75 and 222.10 and the 1-meter with scores of 238.15 and 224.45
  • Junior Ava Ellis claimed both 1000 Free races (10:51.14 and 11:05.59) and the other 500 Free race (5:20.06)
  • Rawlins swept the 50 Free contests with times of 24.73 seconds and 24.93 seconds, and Panamserkhang added a first-place finish in the 400 IM in 4:46.59

Up Next

The Spartans will host sixth/12th-ranked archrival Carnegie Mellon on Saturday, November 1 for the team's first home meet of the 2025-26 season.
