Seniors Art Martinez and Thomas Wagner won their brackets for the Case Western Reserve wrestling team at the Bob Del Rosa Open on Sunday at the Veale Center in Cleveland.
The competition was split between 10 open brackets and 10 brackets for first-year or sophomore wrestlers.
Bracket Winners
- Martinez went 3-0 to win the 133-pound open bracket
- He won his first two bouts by technical falls and the final in a 13-8 decision
- Martinez improved to 6-1 this season and 110-33 for his career
- Wagner went 3-0 to capture the 157-pound open bracket
- He started the day with two technical falls and prevailed by decision, 3-1, in the final
- Wagner improved to 7-1 during the 2025-26 campaign and 65-43 for his career
Top Finishers
- Senior Aidan Gassel placed second in the 197-pound open bracket
- Gassel went 2-1, winning by pin and major decision
- Senior E.J. Alizio placed third in the 125-pound open bracket
- Alizio had a 2-1 record, winning one match by pin and one by decision
- Sophomore Chase Crutchley earned the bronze medal in the 174-pound open division
- Crutchley went 2-1, winning both bouts by decision
- First-year Hunter Keane had a 4-1 record in the 141-pound first-year/sophomore bracket to place third
- Keane recorded a fall and two major decisions
- First-year Alexander Goldman made his collegiate debut, placing fifth in the 197-pound first-year/sophomore bracket
- Goldman went 2-1, earning both of his wins by decision
- Junior Mathew Gummere finished sixth in the 184-pound open bracket
- Gummere had a 2-2 record, recording a fall in 2:37

- First-year Christopher Bezzeg pinned three opponents in the 157-pound first-year/sophomore bracket, increasing his team lead to five
- Junior Louka Babic went 2-2 in the 174-pound open bracket
- First-year Cole Rose split his four matches in the first-year/sophomore division of the 141-pound bracket, earning his second pin of the season
- First-year Kodi Pfeiffer picked up his first career pin and technical fall in the first-year/sophomore 184-pound bracket
- Sophomore Alexander Greene Barrios added a victory in the 133-pound first-year/sophomore bracket
Spartan Notes
- Wrestlers from 18 colleges and five clubs competed at the open with over 600 matches on nine mats in the Veale Center
- Wagner won a bracket for the first time in his career
- Martinez placed first in a competition for the fifth time in his career and the first time this season. His 110 wins are tied for eighth most in program history with former Spartan Chris Nader
- CWRU totaled 85.5 points in the open division and 43.0 points in the first-year/sophomore division
