CWRU Women’s Tennis 2026 Fall Season Preview

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team is set to begin the fall portion of its 2026-27 season on Sunday at the Allegheny Invite in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

Last season, the Spartans went 13-7 in dual matches, reaching the Second Round of the NCAA Team Championship for the fourth time in program history. CWRU finished the season ranked 17th in Division III by the ITA and had two All-Americans in graduate student Hannah Kassaie and senior Katalina Wang. Overall, CWRU went 145-68 (.681) in singles play and 85-34 (.714) in doubles play.

This season, Case Western Reserve will return nine members back from its squad while introducing five student-athletes to the team. Highlights among the returning players are senior captain Katie Wong (22-10 doubles, 11-12 singles), who earned All-University Athletic Association Second Team honors for her doubles play last season, sophomore Atra Biria (13-7 singles, 9-5 doubles), who received All-UAA honorable mention at fourth singles, sophomore captain Gabby Lee (17-10 doubles, 10-9 singles), and sophomores Tara Markovic (13-8 singles, 6-5 doubles), Emma Thoms (15-11 doubles, 4-1 singles), and Trisha Vellanki (11-3 doubles, 8-5 singles).

Additionally, juniors Yasemin Bilgin, captain Maya Brink, and Sara Fernandez, and sophomores Rasika Anandakumar and Ava Karrenbauer return to the squad. Newcomers include first-year players Shayli DodiaKatie RuciDaryana Skobeleva, and Allison Wayne, and graduate student Victoria Vasquez. Vasquez, a native of Shaker Heights, Ohio, played two seasons at Kenyon College and earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference First Team honors in 2021.

After their trip to Allegheny, CWRU will travel to Granville, Ohio, for the Big Red Invite on September 12 and 13, and Gambier, Ohio, for the Kenyon Invite on September 19 and 20. The ITA Fall Regional Championship, which will take place from September 25-27 in Kalamazoo, Michigan, will wrap up the fall season for Case Western Reserve.
