The Case Western Reserve University men's swimming and diving team set a pair of school records on the first day of the Spartan Invitational at the Veale Natatorium in Cleveland on Friday.
First-year Trevor Novak, senior Mason Bencurik, senior William Froass, and senior John Drumm broke their own school record in the 400 Free Relay, swimming a time of 2:58.67. The quartet recorded a time of 2:59.79 at the University Athletic Association Championships last weekend. Novak broke his own 100 Free school record of 44.88 seconds in the first leg of the relay, starting the squad off with a time of 44.78 seconds. Both the 100 Free and 400 Free Relay times were NCAA B cuts and pool records.
The CWRU men's and women's teams recorded the top times in the 500 Free (senior Claire Kozma and first-year Owen Miao), 200 IM (first-year Sohalya Rawlins), 50 Free (sophomore Sheila Monera Cabarique), 400 IM (sophomore Edgar Rutkauskas), 50 Back (senior Eliza Dixon and first-year River Chiang), 100 Fly (Rawlins), and 200 Free (junior Maggie Rose Rook and first-year Tigran Danagoulian).
The Spartans competed against John Carroll University and the University of Rochester on the first day of the competition. The two-day meet will conclude on Saturday with the morning session scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and the evening session slated to start at 5 p.m.
