The Case Western Reserve University volleyball team recorded its fourth consecutive winning season in 2025, capping the year off with an upset of 13th-ranked Emory.
The Spartans went 17-14 during the campaign, earning three victories over teams that reached the NCAA Tournament and finished fifth in the University Athletic Association with a record of 4-3 and a 2-1 mark at the league championship. CWRU had a pair of All-America honorable mentions in senior middle blocker Amanda Ngo and senior outside hitter Kalli Wall, who were also both celebrated with All-UAA honors.
After starting the season 0-6, including a loss to national runner-up La Verne, the team recovered, winning eight of its next 11 matches, including its conference opener. After a pair of UAA losses, the Spartans won their next five matches, defeating then-10th-ranked WashU for the third year in a row to conclude Homecoming Weekend. CWRU followed with a five-set win over crosstown rival John Carroll and followed with a five-set victory over NYU at the third UAA round robin. The Spartans finished the season with a 6-2 mark in five-set matches.
After losses to Chicago and Otterbein, Case Western Reserve ended the regular season with a sweep of Wooster. In the league tournament, the fifth-seeded Spartans fell to fourth-seeded Carnegie Mellon, the eventual league champion, before responding with a sweep of eighth-seeded Rochester. On the season's final day, the team upset Emory to claim fifth place in the UAA, the program's first win over the Eagles since 1992.
Ngo became the first player in program history to receive multiple All-America recognitions after earning Third Team honors last year. A two-time All-UAA First Team selection, she was the team's top blocker, totaling 116 blocks, which ranked 23rd in Division III before the NCAA Tournament, including 32 solo in 120 sets. On the offensive end, she was second on the squad with 311 kills, averaging 3.23 per set, and paced the team with a .284 hitting percentage. Ngo reached the 1,000-point milestone during her final season as a Spartan.
Wall, who received All-UAA Second Team honors as an outside hitter, led the team with 431 kills in 120 sets, ranking 28th nationally in kills prior to the postseason. She totaled 469.0 points, the second-most in the UAA in the regular season and added 68 blocks (six solo) and 116 digs. Wall eclipsed the 1,000-career kill and 1,000-career point milestones this season.
Sophomore Sophia Datto was the team's primary libero, receiving All-UAA honorable mention for her play at the position. She paced the squad with 553 digs (4.61 per set) and was second on the squad with 25 service aces. Sophomore setters Elena Esquivel and Avery Basinger split the team's setting duties. Esquivel finished the season with 703 assists and 316 digs and Basinger contributed 402 assists and 250 digs. Defensively, juniors Sude Naz Item and Emily Goodpaster both had at least 200 digs in 2025, while senior Kiya Levy added 93 blocks and 159 kills in the middle of the court.
Sophomore Madeline Halter appeared in every match for CWRU, putting down 163 kills and 31 blocks. First-year defensive specialist Thea Beran played in 23 matches and led the squad with 27 aces, and junior outside hitter Katie Yanni averaged 1.57 kills per set in 22 appearances.
