The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team opened competition at the ITA Division III Women's Central Regional Championships on Friday with five players advancing in the main draws to the second day of competition at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis.
Stats and Standouts
Doubles
- Wang and Lee, seeded eighth, defeated Briah O'Neal and Valerie Doherty from DePauw 8-0 in the second round
- They will face Clare Hudson and Kiara Komlodi of Kenyon in the round of 16
- Biria and sophomore Maya Brink went 1-1, defeating a partnership from Otterbein 8-2 before falling to third-seeded Oliwia Mikos and Charlotte Klein of Chicago
- Wong and first-year Emma Thoms lost in the round of 32, 8-4, to Anika Paul and Tina Kintiroglou from Chicago
- The pair responded with an 8-0 victory in the consolation round of 32
Singles
- Wong defeated North Park's Katarina Carlberg 6-2, 6-2 and will face fifth-seeded Caitlin Bui of WashU in the round of 32
- Wang advanced with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Maddie Larsen of Denison. The ninth-seeded Spartan will take on Emily Chiasson of WashU
- Biria won 6-3, 6-0 over Augustana's Maripaz Ramirez and will play Chicago's Lily Zawaneh on Saturday afternoon
- Markovic, who will play WashU's Amber Edmonds, won 6-4, 6-2 over Daniela De Mata of Otterbein
- First-year Trisha Vellanki won her first match 6-1, 6-1, but dropped her second 6-4, 6-4
- Junior Prachi Shah also went 1-1, winning her first match 6-1, 6-2 and falling in her second match in the main draw

Play continues at the regional on Saturday beginning with the doubles round of 16 at 10 a.m. ET. At the end of competition on Saturday, the doubles semi-finalists and singles quarter-finalists will be determined.
