Track and Field Teams Place in Top Two at Denison

The Case Western Reserve University men's and women's track and field teams placed in the top two out of nine teams competing at the Bob Shannon Invitational hosted by Denison University at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio, on Saturday.

The Spartan women's team placed first in the team standings with 119.0 points, and the CWRU men's team was second out of nine teams with 125.0 points.

CWRU placed first in three events. First-year Ciara Ledford won the 3000-meter run in 11:32.72 with senior Mandy Lam placing second in 11:50.88. Junior Melanie Taylor crossed the line first in the 800-meter run at 2:22.95. In the field, graduate student Michaela Burkhauser had the best mark in the shot put with a heave of 12.65 meters.

Senior Lauren Roskuszka and graduate student Ailean Duffie placed second and third in the weight throw with tosses of 15.37 meters and 14.98 meters, respectively. In the mile run, junior Julia Hluck was the runner up with a time of 5:19.90, and first-year Riley Friedman was second to cross the line in the 200-meter dash at 26.93 seconds.

The 4x400-meter relay of Taylor, first-year Siena Kannenberg, junior Arianna Holbrook, and junior Grace Misiunas placed second in 4:14.53. Misiunas and Kannenberg each added third place finishes in individual events. Misiunas earned the bronze in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 9.43 seconds, and Kannenberg was third in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.57.

Senior Jordan Su placed third in a pair of jumping events, earning the third-best mark in the long jump (4.78 meters) and triple jump (10.24 meters).

Members of the Case Western Reserve men's team placed first in three events. Sophomore Tanush Anand had the furthest leap in the triple jump by bounding 13.70 meters, and first-year Donovan Crowley crossed the line first in the mile run at 4:21.59. Additionally, the 4x400-meter relay of senior Nicolas Lende, sophomore Seth Tivakaran, graduate student Yusuf Shaaban, and junior Josh Bates took first with a time of 3:28.87. Bates added an individual second place honor, finishing as the runner-up in the 400-meter dash in 51.70 seconds.

In the field, sophomore Toby Langsner placed second in the shot put with a heave of 14.55 meters, and first-year David Goldstein was second in the pole vault after clearing 4.09 meters. Additionally, first-year Artin Fazeli placed third in the long jump with a leap of 6.41 meters.

The Spartans placed second in a trio of distance events, with senior Hans Holst taking the silver in the 800-meter run in 1:57.16, sophomore Jacob Slater finishing second in the 3000-meter run with a time of 8:53.57, and first-year Will Larson crossing the line second in the 5000-meter run at 16:34.46.

The CWRU track and field teams will compete at three meets next weekend: the GVSU Big Meet on Friday, February 14 and Saturday, February 15 at Grand Valley State, the Crimson and Gold Invite on February 14 at Oberlin College, and the Indoor All-Ohio Championships on Saturday at Otterbein.
