Phipps Places 20th Nationally in 200-Meter Dash

First-year sprinter Gianna Phipps of the Case Western Reserve University women's track and field team finished 20th in the 200-meter dash at the 2026 NCAA Division III Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex in La Crosse, Wisconsin, on Thursday evening.

Phipps, competing in the second of three heats, finished the race in 24.93 seconds. Her 20th-best finish is the best-ever by a Spartan in the event. She joined Lisa Encarnacion (1991, 1992) and Sheila Ballado (1990) as the only sprinters of the CWRU women's track and field team to compete at the national outdoor championships in program history.

Phipps, who was the only first-year student-athlete in the race, qualified for the meet with a school record time of 24.29 seconds at All-Ohio Outdoor Championships in March. She had the 17th-fastest time in Division III this season entering the meet.
