No. 12 Women’s Tennis Falls to No. 5 Chicago

Box Score

The 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team dropped its Friday afternoon match to fifth-ranked University of Chicago 8-1 at the Stagg Tennis Courts in Chicago.

The Spartans fell to 12-4 on the season, while the Maroons improved to 14-1.

After Chicago won at second doubles, CWRU tied the score with a victory at first doubles. Juniors Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey defeated Oliwia Mikos and Rena Lin 8-6. The Spartans have won every single first doubles match this season, with Kassaie and McCloskey accounting for 11 of the 16 victories.

The Maroons won the third doubles match in a tiebreaker, 8-7 (8), to stake a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.

Wins at fourth, sixth, and fifth singles sealed the victory for the hosts. Chicago also won at second and third singles to extend its lead to 7-1. Trying to force a third set in the first singles match after losing the first set 6-4, Kassaie reached a tiebreaker in the second stanza. However, she fell 7-6 (4) in a hard-fought session to end the match.

The Spartans will look to rebound when the team faces 25th-ranked North Central on Saturday at the College of DuPage Tennis Courts in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. The first serve is expected at 12 p.m. ET.
