Box Score The 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team ended its trip to Fredericksburg, Virginia, for the Blue Gray Invite with a 9-0 win over Gustavus Adolphus at the Hegmann Family Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Mary Washington on Monday morning.
With the win, the Spartans improved to 9-3 on the season with a 3-0 record at the Blue Gray Invite. The Golden Gusties fell to 7-4 overall.
CWRU began the match with a sweep of the doubles contests. Juniors Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey did not drop a point at first doubles, defeating Molly Austin and Allison Szalay 8-0. Junior Radha Patel and sophomore Katalina Wang added with an 8-1 win at second doubles over Bethany Smith and Kaya Debruijn. To complete the sweep, seniors Pallavi Goculdas and Katherine Wang defeated Alli Laux and Pavla Yakimova 8-5 at third doubles.
Kassaie continued her perfect day with a 6-0, 6-0, first singles win over Szalay. Junior Anna Kan clinched the match victory with a 6-0, 6-1, win at fourth singles over Debruijn.
At second singles, McCloskey prevailed 6-1, 6-4, over Austin, and sophomore Asha Shukla followed with a 6-2, 6-2, victory at fifth singles over Ella De Young. Senior Chloe Ku won 6-3, 6-2, at sixth singles over Pavla Yakimova, and Katalina Wang completed the sweep with a thrilling 6-4, 5-7, 10-8, win at third singles over Laux.
The Spartans will next travel to Gambier, Ohio, to face 18th-ranked Kenyon on Friday at 3 p.m. for a match that was postponed from February 17.
