Box Score The 19th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team rebounded from a tough loss to sweep 31st-ranked Skidmore College, 9-0, at the Butch Newman Tennis Center on the campus of Trinity University in San Antonio on Monday.
The Spartans improved to 6-2 with the win, while the Thoroughbreds dropped to 2-2 with the loss.
CWRU started doubles play with three victories. Juniors Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey defeated Ella Provost and Grace Truong 8-2 at first doubles. Senior Pallavi Goculdas and junior Anna Kan followed with an 8-3 victory at third doubles over Katherine Almquist and Beilynn Geiss. At second doubles, junior Radha Patel and sophomore Katalina Wang prevailed in a tiebreaker, besting Katie Wong and Konika Dhull 8-7 (7-5).
In singles play, Wang led 6-1, 2-1, over Provost at third singles before the Thoroughbred player retired. Kassaie clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-0, first singles win over Dhull.
Patel added a 6-1, 6-3 win at fifth singles over Almquist, and sophomore Elsa Syed defeated Geiss 6-3, 6-3, at sixth singles. Kan contributed a 6-4, 6-1, fourth singles win over Wong, and McCloskey finished the match by defeating Truong 6-4, 7-6 (7-2) at second singles.
The Spartans will wrap up their Texas trip with a matchup against fifth-ranked Wesleyan on Tuesday, scheduled to begin at 10:00 a.m. ET.
