Box Score The 17th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team opened its spring season with an 8-1 win over the College of Wooster on Friday afternoon at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio.
The Spartans start the season with a 1-0 record, while the Fighting Scots fall to 1-2.
CWRU captured all three doubles matches without dropping a point. At first doubles, juniors Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey swept Janaki Jagannathan and Otilia Oita 8-0. Junior Anna Kan and sophomore Asha Shukla matched the feat at second doubles, defeating Abby Aitken and Lauren Richmond, 8-0. Seniors Katherine Wang and Pallavi Goculdas rounded out doubles play with a win by default at third doubles.
Case Western Reserve captured five of the six doubles points, with Katherine Wang starting singles play with a win by default at sixth singles. Both sophomore Elsa Syed and first-year Prachi Shah won their matches in sweeps. Syed defeated Aitken at third singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Shah won 6-0, 6-0, over Maragaret Steward at fifth singles. At fourth singles, sophomore Ellior Rose earned a 6-0, 6-1, victory over Richmond, and at first singles, sophomore Katalina Wang bested Oita, 6-3, 6-2.
Wooster's lone point of the match came at second singles with Jagannathan winning in three sets 2-6, 6-3, 10-8.
The Spartans will next host 19th-ranked Kenyon College at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club on Saturday, February 17. The first serve is scheduled for 5 p.m.
