The 12th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team started the spring portion of its season with a 9-0 win over the College of Wooster on Sunday at the Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster, Ohio.
The Spartans are now 1-0 on the season, while the Fighting Scots fell to 1-1 in duals.
CWRU started the dual with a sweep of the doubles matches. Senior Nina Hoog and sophomore Anna Kan did not drop a point at second doubles, winning 8-0 over Katie Materick and Kim Nguyen. Sophomores Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey followed with an 8-1 win at first doubles, besting Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan. Completing the sweep were senior Shreya Ramani and junior Caitlyn Hsu with an 8-4 win at third doubles over Abby Kushner Benson and Charitha Patlolla.
Junior Pallavi Goculdas started singles play with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nguyen at fourth singles. Junior Chloe Ku clinched the match win by beating Materick 6-0, 6-2 at fifth singles. Junior Katherine Wang followed with a 6-1, 6-2 defeat of Abby Aitken at sixth singles. At second singles, first-year Katalina Wang increased the Spartan advantage with a 7-6, 6-2 victory over Jagannathan, and at third singles, first-year Asha Shukla rebounded from losing the first set to claim a 5-7, 6-2, 1-0 win over Patlolla. Sophomore Radha Patel completed the singles sweep with a 6-7, 7-6, 1-0 win over Oita at first singles.
The Spartans will host their first duals of the season next Saturday, welcoming Otterbein and Wittenberg to the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio. CWRU will face the Cardinals at 12 p.m. and follow with a matchup against the Tigers at 5:30 p.m.
