Box Score Case Western Reserve University junior Hannah Kassaie reached the consolation final of the 2023 ITA Cup following three days of competition at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Georgia, over the weekend.
Kassaie, the first-ever member of the CWRU women's tennis team to compete in the singles draw of the prestigious tournament, was seeded second in the draw.
She fell to Sarah Youngberg of Wesleyan on Thursday afternoon in the Round of 16, 5-7, 2-6. However, she rebounded in the consolation bracket to finish 2-1 over the weekend. On Friday, she bested Vassar's Erin McCusker in the consolation quarterfinals 6-2, 6-1. The following day, she finished the weekend with a 6-4, 7-5 win over Divya Venkatarama of Carnegie Mellon in the consolation semifinal round. The consolation final was not played due to weather delays affecting the weekend's schedule.
Kassaie ends the fall season with a record of 11-2 (.846) in singles play. Her 55 career singles wins rank fourth in program history, just 10 behind the record of 65 set by Surya Khadilkar.
The ITA Cup concludes the fall season for CWRU. The Spartan women's tennis team will return to the courts on February 9, 2024, to face the College of Wooster in a dual match.
