The #12 Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team won its seventh straight match with a 7-2 victory over Oberlin College at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio on Saturday afternoon.
The Spartans improve to 14-1 on the season, while the Yeowomen drop to 7-7.
First-years Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey, ranked second in the Central Region, started the match with an 8-1 win at first doubles over Claudia and Isabelle Olaes. However, Case Western Reserve dropped the second and third doubles matches and faced a 2-1 deficit heading into singles play.
McCloskey, the 10th-best singles player in the Central Region, tied the match score at two with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Anna Pastore at first singles. At fourth singles, first-year Madeleine Eiss followed with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Dina Nouaime. First-year Anna Kan bested Claudia Olaes 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles to give the Spartans a 4-2 lead, and sophomore Pallavi Goculdas clinched the victory at sixth singles with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Alandria Bellamy. Adding wins were junior Savannah Bright, 6-1, 6-2 at third singles, and first-year Radha Patel, 6-4, 6-0 at second singles over Marta Laska, ranked 21st in the Central Region.
The Spartans conclude Senior Weekend on Sunday with a match against #29 Denison University at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club starting at 12 p.m. The team will honor its four graduating members, Bright, Eliza Georgiades, Nidhi Jha, and Shreyaa Mukund, with a special 'Senior Day' ceremony.
