The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team rebounded from its first loss of the season by defeating the College of Wooster 5-4 at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club in Mayfield, Ohio on Friday night.
The Spartans improve to 8-1 on the season, while the Fighting Scots fall to 3-5.
CWRU took a 2-1 lead after doubles play by winning at first and second doubles. At first doubles, junior Savannah Bright and first-year Hannah Kassaie won 8-0 over Cherry Patlolla and Abby Kushner Benson. First-year Anna Kan and sophomore Katherine Wang beat Otilia Oita and Janaki Jagannathan 8-3 at second doubles. At third doubles, senior Shreyaa Mukund and sophomore Chloe Ku battled Katie Materick and Kim Nguyen, but ultimately lost 7-8.
First-year Lily McCloskey started singles play off with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Oita at first singles. Junior Radha Patel followed at second singles with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Patlolla. At sixth singles, senior Eliza Georgiades clinched the match for CWRU with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Abby Aitken.
Sophomore Caitlyn Hsu lost a hard-fought match at fourth singles to Nguyen 7-6, 4-6, 0-1. Ku dropped the third singles match to Jagannathan 4-6, 3-6, and Mukund fell at fifth singles to Materick 2-6, 2-6.
The Spartans welcome Division II Indiana University of Pennsylvania to the Mayfield Village Racquet Club on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
