Women's Tennis Extends Winning Streak, Defeats Otterbein 9-0

The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with a 9-0 win over Otterbein University on Sunday afternoon at the LaTuchie Tennis Center in Stow, Ohio.

The Spartans improve to 5-0 with the win, while the Cardinals drop to 5-2. The team's winning streak dates back to the final match of the 2021 season.

Junior Savannah Bright and first-year Radha Patel started with an 8-2 win over Madi Mueller and Lillia Walter at second doubles. First-years Hannah Kassaie and Lily McCloskey followed with an 8-2 win at first doubles over Emma Henson and Erin Storrer. At third doubles, junior Nina Hoog and senior Shreyaa Mukund battled Rachelle Moses and Julia Gillin. Hoog and Mukund took an early 4-0 lead, but Moses and Gillin tied the match over the next four points. After splitting the next two points, the Spartan duo won the next three points to take the match and all three doubles points.

To start singles play, Hoog defeated Aubrey McMahon 6-1, 6-0 at sixth singles. At fourth singles, first-year Anna Kan did not lose a point, defeating Mueller 6-0, 6-0 to clinch the match for Case Western Reserve. Sophomore Chloe Ku dropped just one point at fifth singles, besting Moses 6-0, 6-1, while at second singles McCloskey beat Walter 6-2, 6-0.

In a matchup of two regionally ranked singles players, Kassaie gained the upper hand, beating Storrer 6-2, 6-0 at first singles. Kassaie is currently ranked as the 19th-best singles player in the country and fifth-best in the Central region, while Storrer is ranked as the 17th-best singles player in the Central region.

Bright, the 20th-ranked singles player in the Central region, wrapped up the win for CWRU with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Henson at third singles.

Next up for the Spartans is a trip to Kalamazoo, Michigan to face Kalamazoo College on Friday, February 25 at 4:00 p.m.
