National Champions! Hopper & Aduru Claim 2022 ITA Cup Division III Doubles Title

For the second time in the last three years, a Case Western Reserve University pair has claimed the Division III Doubles Championship at the ITA Cup, as senior James Hopper and junior Vishwa Aduru claimed the National Championship with a win on Saturday afternoon.

It is the second ITA Cup title for Hopper, who won the doubles championship in 2019 with partner Matthew Chen for the only other ITA Cup win in program history.

By virtue of winning the title, Hopper and Aduru have earned the right to submit their names for a wildcard berth into the ITA Fall National Championships in San Diego, California, which will feature the top 32 men's doubles teams in all of collegiate tennis.

After entering the draw as the third seed, the Spartans' duo earned a three-set win over unseeded Derin Acaroglu and Vuk Vuksanovic of Tufts to win the title. Hopper and Aduru dropped a close-played first set 7-5 but rallied for a 6-4 win in the second set, and then won the third set 10-3 to claim the title. The pair improved to 9-2 together in doubles play this season.

The honor is the latest on a long list for Hopper, who is coming off an NCAA Division III Doubles Championship with former Spartan Jonathan Powell in the spring.

While Hopper and Aduru will await the announcement of the Wild Card selection, the rest of the CWRU team will be concluding its fall campaign this weekend at the Everybody vs. Cancer Invitational in Toledo, Ohio.
