The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis wrapped up their regular season in Vienna, Ohio on Friday, falling 6-1 to UAA rival Carnegie Mellon University in the early match, but defeating Franciscan University 6-0 in the second match of the day.
The Spartans' lone win during the early match came at second doubles, where senior Nicole Cardwell and first-year Pallavi Goculdas defeated Carnegie Mellon's Ola Wojciak and Alex Iordache 8-6.
The loss was the first for the Spartans, who fell to 4-1 overall in 2021. The Tartans improved to 12-2 overall with the win.
In the second match of the day against Franciscan, the Spartans claimed wins in all three of the doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead over the Barons. Junior Nidhi Jha and first-year Caitlyn Hsu claimed the first victory at second doubles with an 8-2 win over Zoey Stapleton and Haley Davinsizer. CWRU's next win came at first doubles as Cardwell and Goculdas earned an 8-3 win over Ana Victoria Haddad and Maria Herrera. Rounding out the doubles victories was junior Shreyaa Mukund and sophomore Shreya Ramani at third doubles, as they claimed an 8-2 win over Caroline Picard and Alyce Davis.
Junior Sneha Karnam defeated Susan Schuberg at sixth singles, 8-0. The Spartans next two wins came at third and fourth singles. Senior Mira Amin picked up an 8-3 win over Stapleton at third singles, and first-year Chloe Ku claimed an 8-2 victory over Davinsizer in the fourth match.
With the win, the Spartans improved to 5-1 on the campaign, while Franciscan dropped to 8-3 on the season.
These two matches mark the end of the 2021 regular season for the Spartans, who will now await the selection announcement for the field for the NCAA Division III Championships. Team selections are scheduled to be posted to NCAA.com by noon on Monday, May 10th, while individual selections will be posted to NCAA.com at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 12th.
