The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis made it a clean sweep on 'Senior Day' with a 9-0 win over the College of Wooster at the Mayfield Village Racquet Club on Saturday.
The win was the fourth-straight for the Spartans, as they improved to a perfect 4-0 overall. Wooster dropped to 0-9 on the season with the loss.
The match also marked the final scheduled home contest in the career of each of the Spartans' three seniors – Mira Amin, Nicole Cardwell and Madeleine Paolucci. Together, the three have helped lead the Spartans to 32 wins during their four seasons with the team, while pacing the squad to a national ranking as high as 15th during the 2017-18 campaign.
Behind strong performances from each of the seniors, the Spartans swept all three doubles matches for the second-consecutive match. Junior Shreyaa Mukund and first-year Chloe Ku opened doubles play with an 8-0 win over Sarah Duran and Abby Kushner Benson at third doubles. Amin and Cardwell followed with an 8-1 win over Otlilia Oita and Emma Saxton at second doubles, and Paolucci and sophomore Savannah Bright completed the sweep with an 8-2 win over Laura Haley and Kimberly Nguyen at first doubles.
The Spartans continued to roll during singles play, with wins in each of the six matches. Cardwell claimed a 6-0, 6-0 win over Duran at second singles, while Amin defeated Haley 6-0, 6-0 at third singles. At fifth singles, junior Nidhi Jha bested Kushner Benson 6-0, 6-0, and first-year Caitlyn Hsu added a sixth singles win over Abby Aitken, 6-0, 6-0. Rounding out the win, first-year Katherine Wang bested Nguyen 6-0, 6-1 at fourth singles, and Paolucci picked up a 6-4, 6-2 win over Oita at first singles.
Case Western Reserve was scheduled to play at Franciscan University on Tuesday, April 27th, however that match has been postponed. No make-up date has been scheduled at the current time. As always, please make sure to check athletics.case.edu for the most up-to-date schedules for all Spartan teams.
