The Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team won all nine matches on Friday afternoon, claiming a 7-0 win over the University of Findlay in Findlay, Ohio.
The Spartans improved to 6-2 with the win, their second of the season against Findlay. The Oilers dropped to 5-6 with the loss.
CWRU won all three of the doubles matches to claim the first point of the match. At first doubles, sophomore James Hopper and senior Matthew Chen earned a 6-2 win over Jorge Barnuevo and Alfredo Berlanga. At second doubles, junior Chaitanya Aduru and senior Neil Mabee were perfect in a 6-0 victory over Octavio Carrasco and Florian Butler, and seniors Anthony Kanam and Jonathan Powell added a 6-3 third doubles win against Andrew Codita and Mark Ivanov.
The Spartans strong play continued into the singles matches, where the team swept through all six matches. Hopper remained perfect on the campaign, improving to 6-0 with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Barnuevo at no. 1 singles, and first-year Vishwa Aduru followed with a 7-6, 6-4 victory over Bauer at no. 2 singles. In the third singles match, Chen came from behind to defeat Berlanga 6-7, 6-3, 10-6, while in the fourth singles match, Chaitanya Aduru turned away Codita in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Rounding out the victory, Powell topped Corrasco 6-2, 6-2 at fifth singles, and Kanam bested Ivanov 7-5, 6-2 at sixth singles.
The Spartans are scheduled to complete their 2021 schedule next weekend, traveling to Oberlin for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 24, and returning home to the Carlton Courts for a doubleheader against Wooster on Sunday, April 25. Both doubleheaders are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. starts.
