The 29th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team defeated Kalamazoo College 9-0 on Sunday at the Markin Center in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
The Spartans improved to 3-2 overall with the win, while the Hornets dropped to 0-2 with the loss.
Case Western Reserve swept the three doubles matches on Sunday, as junior Nicole Cardwell and first-year Shreya Ramani topped Sophie Zhuang and Ella Knight 8-3 at second doubles, sophomores Sneha Karnam and Shreyaa Mukund bested Bella Russo and Meghan Killmaster at third doubles, and junior Madeleine Paolucci and first-year Savannah Bright earned an 8-3 win over Laura Hanselman and Helen Pelak at first doubles.
Junior Mira Amin defeated Maddy Winarski at second singles in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0. The Spartans next three wins also came in straight sets at third, first and fourth singles. Karnam picked up a 6-3, 6-1 win over Pelak at third singles, Bright claimed a 6-3, 6-2 win over Hanselman at first singles and Mukund earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over Zhuang at fourth singles. Rounding out the slate of victories for the Spartans were first-year Nina Hoog over Knight, 6-2, 6-1 at fifth singles, and sophomore Eliza Georgiades, 6-2, 6-2 over Killmaster in the sixth singles match.
Case Western Reserve will return to Cleveland for their first home match of the season on Saturday, February 22nd against seventh-ranked Carnegie Mellon University. The match is slated for a 10:00 a.m. start at the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion.
