#34 Women's Tennis Edged by #18 Wash U. at UAA's

The 34th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team were defeated by Washington University (Mo.) 5-0 at the University Athletic Association Championships on Friday, as they will now play in the seventh-place match at the conference championships in Altamonte Springs, Florida.

The Spartans will take on the University of Rochester in the seventh-place match on Saturday at 8:30 a.m., after the Yellow Jackets fell to 21st-ranked New York University in their consolation match meeting on Friday. Rochester is 6-8 overall this season.

The Bears got off to an early lead in the match, as Laurel Wanger and Ashley Lessen bested freshmen Shreyaa Mukund and Sneha Karnam 8-4 in the second doubles match.  Washington then won the next two matches as Sanjna Tripathy and Stephanie Ren defeated sophomore Mira Amin and freshman Nidhi Jha at third doubles, and Ally Persky and Lisa Chionis earned an 8-6 win over sophomores Madeleine Paolucci and Nicole Cardwell at first doubles.

In singles play, Cardwell dropped 6-3, 6-2 decision to Divya Sharma at no. 2 singles, and freshman Eliza Georgiades fell to Zoe Park at sixth singles, 6-2, 6-1. The rest of the singles matches were left unfinished, with the matches at the UAA Championships only being played to decision.

The Spartans dropped to 7-11 overall with the loss, while Washington improved to 12-11 with the win.
