#29 Women's Tennis Downs Aquinas 8-1 on First Day in Florida

The 29th-ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team began their Spring Break to Florida by defeating Aquinas College 8-1 in Orlando, Florida on Sunday.

CWRU improved to 3-2 on the season, while Aquinas dropped to 3-4 on the campaign.

Case Western Reserve started off the day strong, taking two of the three doubles matches to open up a 2-1 advantage over the Saints. Sophomores Madeleine Paolucci and Nicole Cardwell gave the Spartans the early lead with an 8-0 win over Remington Gerst and Martina Devetak at first doubles. Freshmen Shreyaa Mukund and Kristin Jones then picked up an 8-2 win over Sara Forletta and Vanessa Heylmun at third doubles. CWRU's lone loss came at second doubles, as freshmen Nidhi Jha and Sneha Karnam fell 8-6 to Bella Buck and Kiara Berry.

The Spartans went on to win all six of the singles matches. Freshman Eliza Georgiades claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Grace Kelly at sixth singles and then Cardwell picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win over Devetak at second singles. Paolucci picked up the singles victory as she earned a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Gerst at first singles and then Jha won a 6-1, 6-0 decision at fourth singles over Berry. CWRU closed out the match with a victory from sophomore Mira Amin over Bailey Chouinard at third singles and then Mukund claimed the final victory in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0 over Darci TerHarr at fifth singles.

Case Western Reserve will be back in action on Monday, when the squad takes on Millsaps College at 6:30 p.m. at the USTA Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida.
