FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The No. 12 Case Western Reserve women's tennis team nearly came back from a 4-2 deficit before falling 5-4 to No. 20 Skidmore on the final day of the Blue/Grey Invitational in Fredericksburg, Va.

For the third consecutive match against nationally ranked opponents, the Spartans' No. 2 doubles tandem of junior Sara Zargham (Torrance, CA/California Academy of Math and Science) and freshman Nithya Kanagasegar (Crossville, TN /Cumberland County) earned the team's only doubles point, this time with an 8-0 blanking.

Kanagasegar also earned a point in singles, dropping only two games in a comvinving 6-0, 6-2 victory at No. 1 singles.

With the Spartans down 4-2, junior Michelle Djohan (Westlake, OH/Westlake) earned her third win in as many matches at the tournament with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles. Sophomore Sarah Berchuck (Dallas, TX/Baylor School & Suffield Academy) evened the match with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6 singles.

"We played three nationally ranked teams this weekend, which was a great learning experience," said head coach Kirsten Gambrell. "We had slow starts in doubles, which we couldn't overcome in singles. I was happy with the way we played and competed in singles, but our doubles will need to improve as we get ready for Hope on Saturday."

The Spartans (7-4) return home for Senior Day on Saturday against Hope College at 2 p.m.
