FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The No. 12 Case Western Reserve women's tennis team saw its seven-match winning streak end with a 5-4 loss to Mary Washington at the Blue/Grey Invitational in Fredericksburg, Va.
The Spartans (7-2) fell behind 2-1 in doubles with junior Sara Zargham (Torrance, CA/California Academy of Math and Science) and freshman Nithya Kanagasegar (Crossville, TN /Cumberland County) taking No. 2 doubles, 8-4.
Senior Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, OH/Northmont) recorded a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 2 singles, but Mary Washington clinched the match with a straight-set win at No. 4 singles for a 5-2 lead after taking the matches at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
CWRU earned the final two points as junior Michelle Djohan (Westlake, OH/Westlake) earned a 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 5 singles and sophmore Sarah Berchuck (Dallas, TX/Baylor School & Suffield Academy) took No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
The Spartans continue play in the tournament against No. 14 Sewanee tomorrow at 9 a.m.
