Krentz Throws First UAA No-Hitter in Spartans' 12-0 Win Over Rochester

Box Score

SANFORD, Fla. - Junior right-hander Neal Krentz (Bloomfield Hills, MI/Lahser) tossed a seven-inning no-hitter, the first in UAA Baseball Championship history, as the Case Western Reserve University baseball team defeated University of Rochester 12-0.

"My team swung the bat well and made some unbelievable plays in the field," said Krentz. "I knew they had my back so I just had to make their hitters put it in play."

Krentz walked five and struck out eight, retiring the side in order in the third and fifth innings.

"Nobody works harder than Neal Krentz," said CWRU Head Coach Matt Englander. "I'm so happy for him. This day was well earned and well-deserved."

Sophomore leftfielder Josh Neal (Gaithersburg, MD/St. John's College) finished 3-for-4 with a a double and four runs batted in, and senior first baseman Rob Winemiller (Twinsburg, OH/University School) drove in three runs.

The Spartans wasted no time in getting on the board in the top of the first inning. Antonio Damiano (Naples, FL/Gulf Coast) singled and moved to second on a muffed throw on a ball hit to short by Winemiller. Senior third baseman Andrew Gronski (Hilliard, OH/Hilliard) singled to left field to load the bases.

Damiano scored when senior shortstop Kerrigan Cain (Hartville, OH/Archbishop Hoban) reached on a fielder's choice. With two outs, freshman second baseman Alex Capetillo singled to score Winemiller. Senior designated hitter Will Meador (Columbus, OH/Worthington Kilbourne) doubled in Capetillo and Neal singled down the right field line to make it 5-0.

Neal and Winemiller each hit two-run doubles in the third inning to extend the lead to 9-0. Neal produced his third hit in the fifth inning and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Winemiller. Kerrigan Cain singled in sophomore rightfielder Aaron Cain (Hartville, OH/Archbishop Hoban) and the lead ballooned to 12-0 when Gronski, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a throwing error.

The Spartans moved to 3-1 in UAA play, one game behind No. 2 Emory University. CWRU returns to action against NYU tomorrow at 5 p.m.
