Women's Tennis

No. 27 Spartan Women Beat Wooster, 9-0

CLEVELAND – Playing in the first official match at the newly refurbished Carlton Courts, the No. 27 nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team earned a 9-0 victory over The College of Wooster on Wednesday afternoon.

The Spartans (7-6) did not drop a set for the entire match against the Fighting Scots (5-7) and had three individuals go 2-0 for the day.

Sophomores Sara Zargham (Torrance, Calif./California Academy of Math and Science) and Lauren Rovner (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee) as well as freshman Kennedy Mulholland (Pepper Pike, Ohio/Beachwood) all won in both singles and doubles competition.

Zargham earned victories at first singles (6-3, 6-2) and first doubles (8-1) with junior partner Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont). Rovner and sophomore partner Michelle Djohan (Westlake, Ohio/Westlake) won 8-2 at second doubles before the former won 6-0, 6-0 at third singles.

Kennedy and sophomore Meredith Lee (South Bend, Ind./Penn) won the last doubles match, 8-2, while Kennedy won 6-0, 6-0 at fourth singles.

CWRU next competes on Saturday, April 5 when it hosts University Athletic Association rival and No. 9 ranked Carnegie Mellon University (Pa.) at 12:30 p.m.
