CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Case Western Reserve University women's tennis team notched its third 9-0 dual match victory of the fall and second in as many days by sweeping The College of Wooster on Saturday afternoon at the Carlton Courts. The home opener was part of Spartan Tennis Alumni and Parents Day/Affinity Day.
The Spartans (3-0) will have a week off from competition prior to hosting their final two matches of the fall on Saturday, October 15, versus Oberlin College at 11:00 a.m. and local-rival John Carroll University at 4:00 p.m.
For the third time in as many matches, the Spartans gained an early 3-0 lead during doubles play. The No. 1 tandem of junior Erika Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) and freshman sister Alexandra Lim (Fullerton, Calif./Fullerton Union) won 8-0; the No. 2 team of sophomore Kara Richardson (Columbus, Ohio/Upper Arlington) and junior Kathleen Evers (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mount Notre Dame) won 8-1; and the No. 3 duo of freshmen Alison Althans (Gates Mills, Ohio/Gilmour Academy) and Marianne Bonanno (Clayton, Ohio/Northmont) were victorious by an 8-1 count.
In singles play, the Spartans picked up six straight-set wins from Erika Lim at No. 1 (6-1, 6-1), Bonanno at No. 2 (6-2, 6-0), Althans at No. 3 (6-1, 6-1), Evers at No. 4 (6-0, 6-0), freshman Angie Korpusik (Campbell, Calif./Presentation) at No. 5 (7-6, 6-1) and freshman Sitara Koneru (Columbia, Ohio/Wellington School) at No. 6 (6-2, 6-0).
Wooster falls to 1-2 in dual matches.
