Five members of the fifth-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team were named to the All-University Athletic Association Team, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday morning.
Earning first team honors were graduate student Ansh Shah for his play at no. 4 singles and the no. 1 doubles duo of graduate student Bryce Ware and junior Trey Lambright. Junior Santiago Salazar Garza was named to the second team for his efforts at no. 1 singles and claimed an honorable mention at no. 2 doubles with sophomore Rowan Matorin. Also earning honorable mentions were Matorin at no. 5 singles and Ware at no. 6 singles.
This was the third time that Shah has earned All-UAA honors over his career, securing a spot on the first team at no. 3 singles in 2022 and on the second team at no. 4 singles in 2024. The other four CWRU players each claimed All-UAA honors for the first time in their respective careers.
Shah went 2-0 in no. 4 singles matches during the UAA Championship, including the clinching victory in the quarterfinals over 20th-ranked Brandeis. He is 10-2 overall this season in singles matches with a 7-2 mark in no. 4 singles matches, and stands at 84-24 overall in singles play during his career.
Lambright and Ware, ranked fifth in Division III and second in the region, are 20-7 as a pair this year, including a 14-6 mark in no. 1 doubles contests. The pair was 1-1 during the UAA Championship with a win over the duo from Brandeis in the quarterfinals.
Salazar Garza has played out of the no. 1 spot in the singles lineup for most of the spring, tallying an overall record of 20-12 for the campaign. He is currently ranked 22nd in Division III and sixth in the Central Region, and has a 10-10 record in no. 1 singles matches this year.
Salazar Garza has also teamed with Matorin to record a 7-2 doubles mark together this year, including a 3-2 mark in no. 2 doubles contests. The pair went 2-1 at the UAA Championship with wins against their counterparts from Brandeis in the quarterfinals and fifth-ranked Carnegie Mellon in the semifinals. The victory over the Tartans clinched the doubles point for the Spartans.
Matorin stands at 17-5 in singles matches during the season, including a 12-1 mark during dual contests in the spring. He is 3-1 at no. 5 singles and won his only match that was decided at the UAA Championship against Brandeis in the quarterfinals.
Ware was 2-0 in no. 6 singles matches at the UAA Championship with straight-set wins against his counterparts from Carnegie Mellon in the semifinals and top-ranked UChicago in the championship match. He stands at 11-5 overall in singles contests during his first season as a Spartan, including an 8-2 record in dual matches.
The Spartans placed second at the 2026 UAA Championship in Altamonte Springs, Florida, in late April, marking the team's fifth-consecutive top-two finish at the conference championship. CWRU stands at 26-8 overall and will host the first three rounds of the NCAA Division III Championship this weekend at the Carlton Courts in Cleveland.
