The fifth-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team opened play at the ITA Indoor National Championship in St. Peter, Minnesota, on Friday morning with a 5-2 win over 11th-ranked Johns Hopkins University.
The Spartans continued their undefeated spring, improving to 9-0 on the season, and will face fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in the semifinals on Saturday. Johns Hopkins, which opened its campaign on Friday, will take on eighth-ranked Swarthmore in the consolation match.

The Spartans entered the tournament as the third-seeded team, while the Blue Jays were seeded sixth.

CWRU took the doubles point behind a win from seniors Anmay Devaraj and Rohan Bhat at third doubles and the clinching win in a tiebreaker at no. 2 doubles from sophomores Jon Totorica and Leon Chen.

The Spartans quickly clinched the match with singles wins from junior Santiago Salazar Garza in the first match, Bhat in the sixth match, and Totorica in the fifth match. Adding a singles win was graduate student Ansh Shah, who secured a victory in the fourth singles contest.

This marked the fifth consecutive year the Spartans have advanced to the semifinals of the ITA Indoor Championship. CWRU went on to reach the championship in two of the previous years.

Bhat and Devaraj's doubles win came against the 10th-ranked pairing in Division III.

Totorica began the match ranked 36th in DIII, while the pairing of graduate student Bryce Ware and junior Trey Lambright was ranked 17th.
