The fifth-ranked Case Western Reserve University men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the 2026 campaign on Saturday, falling to fourth-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 5-2 in the semifinals of the ITA Indoor Nationals in St. Peter, Minnesota.
The Spartans fell to 9-1 with the loss, while CMS improved to 6-0 following the victory. CWRU will now face top-ranked Denison in the third-place match, in a rematch of last year's NCAA Championship.

Saturday's contest was a rematch of the 2025 NCAA Division III Championship semifinal match, which the Spartans won 4-2 on the Stags' home courts.

After dropping the first doubles match decided, CWRU secured the doubles point behind a win at third doubles from seniors Rohan Bhat and Anmay Devaraj, and a clinching victory from graduate student Bryce Ware and junior Trey Lambright (ranked 17th in Division III) at no. 1 doubles.

Despite earning the doubles point, the Spartans would claim just one singles win, as senior Matthew Plunkett claimed a straight-set win over nationally 19th-ranked Warren Pham.
